What might a Therapy Dog session look like?
Every session is unique and shaped around the individual, their interests, goals and needs. Activities can take place indoors or outdoors, creating a flexible, supportive environment where people can feel comfortable, engaged and able to take part at their own pace.
Sessions may combine practical activities, time with the dogs, opportunities for learning and space to reflect on progress and celebrate achievements. Depending on the person, they can be adapted to find the right balance of calm, movement, challenge and enjoyment.
Sessions may include:
- A wellbeing check-in and time to reflect and celebrate achievements
- Dog handling, communication and reading canine body language
- Positive reinforcement training and interactive games
- Confidence-building activities and wellbeing walks (where appropriate)
The aim is to create positive, meaningful experiences that support wellbeing, learning and personal development alongside animals.
